I don’t know about you, but I generally have a bit of a problem with trends. When they’re here today, gone tomorrow, it can be hard to keep up – especially when it comes to the world of interiors.

Each year there’s a new colour trending or a particular aesthetic to aspire towards, and the lack of personality that can come from following trends is, well, dare I say, a bit blah. However, a trend that I can get on board with – and am so pleased to see mainstream – is dopamine décor.

The term ‘dopamine dressing’ was coined back in the 2010s, but I’m sure you would agree that a whole heap has happened since then. With a lot of us needing to make the best of some bad situations, this trend has spilled into décor.

Dopamine is a neurotransmitter and hormone. It plays a huge role in how we feel pleasure, for instance when you eat a good meal, get the last item in your size on sale or connect intimately with someone. It is dopamine that ignites that feeling of pure delight and in the current state of the world, we need a dopamine hit now more than ever.
